-Shoka Shimputai (2014)
The project Shoka Shimputai arose from the idea to approach Japanese flower arranging (Ikebana)
from a sculptural point of view. In the video an Ikebana teacher explains what Ikebana is, and with the help of drawings she shows us how to make a particular arrangement: a Shoka Shimputai.
While she is explaining every step she starts making a Shoka Shimputai. Instead of using branches and flowers, she works with materials chosen by the artist: cardboard, foam etc... Because of the impossibility of the materials a frustrated struggle arises. She constantly has to change her plan and choice of material and starts all over every time. In stead of her frustration she doesn't give up, and after many attempts she is finally done. A sculptural arrangement is the result.
